Folding Table
How do I coat my plastic folding table in epoxy?
I have a 72″ by 30″ plastic folding table. Looking to coat in epoxy with purple and gold color flakes/paint chips. Also want VIKINGS painted in black in the center of the table. How much epoxy/paint chips/black paint should I get for this and please instruct me as to how I need to do this job because I have no idea! Thanks 
What you are doing is called cold enamelling, This can be done with either epoxy or polyester resin. I suspect that you want a clear finish whith flakes or chips embedded in it.If so follow these instructions, First, use a bit of the resin you intend to use and test the table suface by placing a drop of catalysed resin on it and allow to cure, then peel this drop off, if you cannot peel it off or it appears to have eaten into the surface it means the materials are not compatable and you will have to find a resin that is or a different table top.
Painting can be done in gelcoat or humbrol enamel paint, this should be done before you coat the table and allowed to dry for at least 72 hours.
Metal flakes can be purchased from most paint suppliers and handicraft stores in small vials (these are added to your resin before catalysation.
Work your clear resin out to 1 litre per 1 square meter. (I think you will need 2 litres)
Be sure that there is no grease on your table top as this will cause delamination.
Thre are two methods for coating the table, one is with a brush and putting on several coats the other is to use sellotape or masking tape around the edge as a lip and then to fill this lip up with resin to form a block or thick clear coat.
This is a complicated procedure and I suggest you practice on scrap material first.
