Hammock Pillow
cloth hamster supplies?
I was at a pet store a while back and saw some cloth hamster stuff. ex hammock, a little cloth bed (looked liked a mini dog bed) and little hamster blankets and pillows.
Are these sanitary enough for the hamster? Both of mine use their potties but the odd time when i clean the cage Ill find a pee here and there XD. Also my hamsters will chew anything they see. Would the fabric or dye hurt them if they were to tear it?
Maybe this is a no-brainer but i’d just like to know if the cloth products are safe for my hammies
I have rats and hammocks are must for them. I don’t know if a hamster will understand them too well though. A little bed or other ground level item might work better, as they could maybe fall out and hurt themselves and it seems they’d rather hide or burrow anyway.
Maybe if it was put in a house they might be more prone to use it too. There’s a possibility they’ll shred it, esp. with hamsters, mice and other little animals, as they’d probably want to use it to make nesting materials. In that case there are little shred pads or packets they might prefer (my hamster loved to rip them up and make a nest out of it. They’re relatively inexpensive too. The ones I got were about 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches each, came in like a twelve pack for 2$ and each pack lasted a couple months. Just stick a new one into their house each time the cage is cleaned).
Anyway, all animals will shred them piece by piece, including rats, therefore after maybe a month (depending on how determined they are to destroy it) you might need a new one, finding that there’s not much left of it. They’ll more than likely go to the bathroom in it, but they can be easily cleaned. I usually just brush mine off or give ‘em a quick rinse before throwing them in the washer. I do this each time I clean their cages, about every 5 days. You may need to more often. You could always just hand wash it when necessary with something hygienic.
Also, they shouldn’t eat them, if they do the item needs removed. They could choke, etc. Usually, they’ll just tear ‘em up a bit or a lot and if that’s the case, the dyes shouldn’t be harmful. The packaging might even stress if the dyes used are safe for animals.
