I always prefer to have home made healthy food in natural settings, and nothing comes close to creating such an environment than at my own backyard with trees, flowers and wooden furniture that is comfortable, relaxing and gives natural feeling. You can choose the dining set made from metal, which has advantage of no maintenance, but had disadvantage of being too hot when left in sun, being corroded with time, and gives very ordinary look.
My personal choice is outdoor dining set built of high grade teak wood. Teak wood is hard wood rich in teak oil. This helps it resist cracking, wrapping and has extremely long life.

The size of the dining set coordinates well with your patio or deck, over crowded patio is not very charming at the same time a small patio dining set on large backyard does not give flexibility to accommodate larger party. Second thought is about the weather condition where you live in- if you are not sure about it just go for teak furniture as this wood will fit any kind of weather dry or humid.
